Jim Lee is a good artist. I like his work on X-Men in the early 90s. He, Michael Turner, Greg Cappullo, and Marc Silvestri are inspirational. But I've gave up drawing & sketching since after ending high-school. Sometimes I wish to have more time to pick up the pencil again. But now I'm more inclined to spend time with Barth..
Two words – Neal Adams
Hi b4light,I like Neal Adams’s artwork and figurine too. Yet somehow, IMHO Neal Adam’s Batman does not convey the sense of controlled menace and danger that Jim Lee’s does.
I think that Adams work in the 70’s was a decade ahead of its time. Its sense of realism and movement was something many artists strove to achieve in the next decade eg miller’s classic daredevil run. I’ve always felt that if batman were real, he would look like neal adams’ batman. The main disadvanteg of the period is that teh scripts of that era lacked the grittiness of the modern stories
Hi b4light,I agree with you that Adams’ drawing are very sophisticated for the 70s. However, his portrayal of realism and idealism pave the way for later artists such as Jim Lee to build upon.While the storylines like Morrison’s Batman R.I.P. and the present ongoing Battle for the Cowl are more run of the mill, I am uncomfortable with the way the new Joker stories published after The Dark Knight movie. This new Joker belong to the horror genre. Scary…
